Project Description

Banks Renewables Ltd, part of Banks Group, is developing two Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) on the Thorpe Marsh site in Doncaster, one large 1.4GW project and another smaller 50MW BESS. The project aims to become the UK’s largest battery storage facility and will play a crucial part in helping the UK reach its Net Zero ambitions, helping to establish a secure and reliable electricity network for the nation. Due to the location of site, a new railway connection and railhead is required to transport construction materials and the battery units to and from the site, and to provide long term maintainability for the hub. The rail elements of this major, mulit-million, complex and challenging project needs to be constructed by 2025 to ensure Banks can achieve a connection date of 2026.

InoRail services:

InoRail were initially appointed to complete early Feasibility and Option Selection Studies for the rail connection and railhead. Our industry expertise of delivering third party schemes and support led to the client recently appointing the InoRail ‘Consulting and Strategic Advisory’ team to provide Management and Strategic Advisory services, initially supporting the procurement of the GRIP4-8 design organisation and now providing Project and Engineering Management services, leading the project delivery through Approval in Principle,  Detailed Design and Construction. In addition, InoRail are providing Infrastructure Surveys including Topographical and GI for the rail connection and railhead. This is a challenging project with a tight programme and multiple stakeholders including but not limited to: Network Rail (ASPRO Eastern), TOCs, FOCs, Port Authorities and designers. InoRail’s services include:
